AHS DRESS CODE

Student Appearance

Students' dress and grooming must not disrupt the educational process, interfere with the maintenance of a positive teaching/learning climate, or compromise reasonable standards of health, safety, and decency. Procedures for handling students who dress or groom inappropriately will be developed by the Superintendent and included in the Student Handbook.

Improper attire includes, but is not limited to the following:

Gang colors or symbols are not permitted on school property or at any school function.

Clothing which exhibits advertising for drugs, alcohol, or tobacco is not permitted on school property or at any school function.

Clothing which exhibits profanity, vulgarity, ethnic, or gender slurs is not permitted on school property or at any school function.

Clothing which exhibits military or paramilitary insignia is not permitted on school property or at any school function unless it is worn by military personnel or ROTC members.

Mesh or see-through clothing or clothing which has been torn or cut away (including extremely short shorts) which expose body parts or under garments which are normally covered is not permitted on school property or at any school function.

Head gear (caps, hats, or scarves) is not be worn in school buildings.

Although jackets and sweaters which are part of coordinated outfits are permitted, overcoats and other forms of outerwear are not be worn in the classrooms.

Sunglasses are not to be worn in the school building. Exception: Prescription sunglasses with the consent of the school nurse.

In addition to the recommendations of the ACUSD Board Policy students must adhere to the following guidelines:

Shirts must have sleeves.
Pants must be without holes or shredding.
Skirts, shorts, dresses, and tunics must extend to the knee.
Pants must fit the student's waist and be worn at the student's waist.
Shirts must cover cleavage.
NO rubber flip flops or rubber thong style sandals.
Mesh-style backpacks may be carried all day.

Deviation from these guidelines will result in progressive discipline.
