Career Academies of Alton High School for 2008-2009
The Career Academies of Alton High School are designed to allow students to experience real life opportunities in career areas of high interest to the students.Students will have their minds opened to relevance of their academic studies and possible career pathways. These experiences will help the student make more educated decisions about their post high school plans and provide them with broad possibilities of careers and transferable skills.
Communications, Arts, and Technology (CAT):
This academy includes courses for students who are interested in the communication of ideas, images, and music through a variety of media, including print, film, technology, and performance. Students who select this academy would be those who have interests in the film industry, writing, television and radio, performance arts, visual arts, design, computer technology, and other informational services.
Health and Human Services HaHS
This academy includes courses for student s who are interested in the health fields or careers which provide valuable services to people. These courses would provide students with hands-on activities and experimental learning. Students who select this academy would be those who have interests in all medical file, including doctors, nurses, and assistants, social work, mental health, occupational therapy, education, food service, and cosmetology.
Business, Administration, Law, and Military Science (BALMS):
This academy includes courses for students who are interested in the wide range of fields in the business world, working with multicultural groups, law enforcement, politics, and public service. In the business-related courses, students will have opportunities for hands-on experiences, simulations, and cooperative education. Students who select this academy would be those who have interests in accounting, finance, entrepreneurship, business administration, clerical areas, real estate, banking, law enforcement, including local police to F.B.I and C.I.A, law, civil service, the military service, and language interpretation.
Math, Engineering, Science, and Architecture (MESA):
This academy includes courses for students who are interested in technical design, problem-solving, investigation, and planning. Experiential learning and the use of hands-on activities will enhance the opportunities for students to learn what these careers are all about. Students who select this academy would be those who interests in drafting, engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, aerospace, computer), metallurgy, chemistry, physics, automotive care and repair, general contracting, robotics, planning, and actuarial science.
