The NCAA "Intial Eligibity Clearinghouse" is the organization that determines a student's status or initial eligibilty for NCAA athletic scholarships.High school students who wish to be considered for NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) full or partial athletic scholarships now must meet very specific courses, GPA, and ACT/SAT test score requirements. If these requirements are not satisfied, the student will not be eligible to compete for NCAA Division I or II scholarships.
Approved core classes are listed in the Red Book and should be reviewed before registering each year. Please inform your student's counselor that classes must meet NCAA standards. This information can also be found by visiting www.ncaaclearinghouse.net
Off site classes are also eligible with pre-approval. The Learning Edge has math classes availble but the student must pay the extra money to actually get this through American High School so that they will send a transcript. NCAA will not take the credit unless it is on an official high school transcript.
Please note the additional requirements for students graduating 2008 and later. The math and total general requirements were raised this year. For information, please contact Tami Williams at 474-1828, twilliams@altonschools.org or ask your student to come into the guidance office and pick up a packet with all pertinent information.
