LAURA PLUMMER
Mrs. Plummer is the Director of Orchestras at Alton High School, her alma mater, where she directs the Concert and Symphonic Orchestras, the Alton High School Chamber Strings Ensemble, and the pit orchestra. Her Alton High School Symphonic Orchestra performed at the 2003 Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Convention. In addition, she is the Instrumental Music Coordinator for the Alton School District.
Mrs. Plummer earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, and a Master of Music Education degree with an emphasis in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Oklahoma in Norman where she studied orchestral conducting with Akira Endo. She has studied violin under Mr. Thomas LeVeck of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Barbara Sturgis-Everett and Mr. Michael Ma.
Mrs. Plummer began her career in Moline, Illinois teaching high school and elementary strings, and playing fiddle on the side in the Celtic ensemble, Heartstrings. Mrs. Plummer has coached for the Illinois Summer Youth Music Junior Orchestra camps at the University of Illinois and has conducted the Illinois Music Educators Association districts III, V and II/VIII Junior Orchestra Festivals. She conducted the 2004 St. Louis All-Suburban 7th and 8th Grade Honor Orchestra and was the conductor for the 2003 Alabama All-State String Sinfonietta during which she had the honor of rehearsing with and premiering a commissioned work by Dr. Sandra Dackow. She has also played the electric violin in the band at Faith Fellowship Church.
Mrs. Plummer is a member of the American String Teacher Association (ASTA), Sigma Alpha Iota and the Music Educators National Conference, holding the position of IMEA District Orchestra Rep for several years in districts II and VI.
