MATTHEW BANKS
Matthew Banks is a native of Alton, IL. He attended the Alton public school system from kindergarten until his graduation from Alton High School in 1994. After high school, Matthew attended Illinois State University to pursue a career in music education. He graduated in 2000 with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. While in college, Matthew marched with the Cavalier Drum and Bugle Corps during summer breaks and extensively traveled throughout the United States with the corps. After graduating from ISU, Matthew performed with a Broadway musical show called Blast! both on Broadway in New York City and also was a part of the international touring cast. During his time with the show, it received a Tony Award for best special theatrical event and an Emmy Award for best choreography for a television musical. After performing with the show for several years, Matthew decided to turn his attention toward his teaching career. Matthew has currently completed his Master of Arts in education wtih an emphasis in Educational Leadership and Administration. Matthew is currently a full time instrumental music teacher with Alton Public Schools. While teaching, Matthew has also worked with several high schools and drum and bugle corps, including Union High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Madison Scouts, Spirit, Bluecoats and currently working with The Cavaliers. Matthew Banks is a member of several musical organizations: Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Music Educator National Council, International Tuba and Euphonium Association, and National Association for the Study and Performance of African American Music and Illinois Music Educators Association.
