Benefit Time

Employees earn the following benefits each school year:
  • 14 Sick days per school year for 9-month employees 
  • 2 Personal Leave days per school year  (You can accumulate up to 4 PL days.  Additional days roll over into sick days)
  • Up to 3 bereavement days if needed

  • Health Insurance premium paid by Board of Education for single coverage.

SUBSTITUTES

SUBSTITUTES

Certified Substitutes/Nurses

Substitute Teachers must have a valid Illinois Teaching License or a valid Illinois Substitute Teaching License.  
 
School Nurse substitutes must have a valid Illinois Registered Nurse license.  
 
  • The current daily rate for certified substitutes and substitutes nurse is $135 per day
  • The Long-term rate for certified substitutes and substitute nurses is $225 per day after 10 of more days in the same assignment. 
  • Must complete an application through Skyward Applicant Tracking
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen
  • Must attend a substitute training.
  • Employment History Review (Faith's Law)

Paraprofessionals/Teacher Aides

Substitute Paraprofessionals/Teacher Aides must have a valid Illinois Paraprorfessional License or a valid Illinois Substitute Teaching License.  
 
  • The current hourly rate of pay is $15.00 per hour
  • Must complete an application through Skyward Applicant Tracking
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen
  • Employment History Review (Faith's Law)

Steps for Substitute or Paraprofessional Licensure

Steps to get your license
  • Go to www.ISBE.net
  • Click "Log into ELIS
    • Under "Educator Access" click on "Login to your ELIS Account
    • Click "Click here for first time access to the ELIS system"
    • Create an ELIS account--Create a user name and password using your social security number, birthday and other personal information.
    • Once logged in click on the appropriate license for you are apply. 
    • Apply for a Paraprofessional, Short-Term Substitute or Substitute license
      • The Paraprofessional license allows you to work as a paraprofessional in the classroom full-time or as a paraprofessional substitute. 
        • To get a paraprofessional license, you must have at least 60 college credit hours or you can take the WorkKeys Assessment.  
        • The WorkKeys Test Center is located at 1310 Main St. Edwardsville, IL 62025. Their phone number is 618-307-5131.
      • The STS (Short-term Substitute) license allows you to work as a paraprofessional or a substitute teacher. 
        • To get a STS license, you must have at least 60 college credit hours.
        •  
      • The Substitute license allows you to work full-time as a paraprofessional or as a substitute teacher. You are also able to fill long-term substitute assignments. 
        • To get a SUB license, you must have at least a Bachelor’s degree.  
    • Follow the steps in the application wizard.  There will be a fee.  
    • Once you have applied for a license, send you transcripts or work keys assessment results to 
      • Madison County ROE 41, 157 N. Main St., Suite 438, Edwardsville, IL 62025 (Hand deliver or mail)
      • DO NOT send your transcripts to Springfield, IL. 
      • If you want your transcripts sent electronically, call 618-296-4530 to get the best email address.
      • Transcripts must be from a regionally accredited university.
    • All information is evaluated by the state before licensure is approved and issued. 
    • Once your ELIS account changes from "Pending Review" to "Issued" you will need to register it in Madison County ROE 41.
      • Click on "Registration" and follow the steps and pay the fee.  You must choose ROE 41 Madison County.
